Salt Point State Park 5/20

Nine days later as another weather sunny low wind window opened, I returned to the Sonoma coast on a one day trip after spending Sunday sleeping in my Forester on the sly in Bodega Bay. On Monday May 20, 2024, I rose early then drove north on route 1 to the Salt Point State Park wildflower bluffs.

The first subject I worked at 8am was this seascape with yellow bush lupine, lupinis arboreaus, now at peak, in the foreground and past peak sea thrift, California goldfields, and California poppy on the bluff terrace beyond. After running a focus bracket set of 19 shots, I took 4 more shots focused on the sea to capture a best wave crashing shot that I later selected with Zerene Stacker.

At page top at 8:38am worked this second subject I consider my strongest seascape this year that used 14 focus bracket shots after which I shot 3 more images focused on the sea, again for a choice. The sea was quite roiled due to large waves. I don't want much whitewater foam because that is so bright, nor white foam behind any plants sticking up at the bluff edge. Lichen on tafoni sandstone boulders, sea thrift, California goldfields. Across the rocky cove on the bluff terrace, greens from rattlesnake grass plus patches of goldfields and on the headland rocks, a lone seagull.

At 9:03am worked this simple seascape of a level bluff terrace with the blue ocean in the background with California goldfields, sea thrift, California poppy, and tidy tips. Most goldfields on bluff terraces were past peak versus my visit 9 days earlier, however those in a few cooler locations rose later.

At 9:28am worked this gnarly sandstone tafoni formation like some ancient petrified alien "thing" skeleton.

At 9:41am worked another seascape with dense California goldfields, plus sea thrift. Afterwards, returned to my vehicle then drove south to Sonoma Coast State Beach. California poppy and sea thrift.

At 11:32am worked this seascape bluff edge wildflower image with Gull Rock that is actually populated by cormorants. Was one of the most tedious images requiring hours of work to post process due to the huge parallax at the bluff edge flower sea boundary.

Further along the highway 1 coast, visited a multi-colored surf stones beach. This stony beach visit was my primary reason for the second north coast road trip. And was rewarded by the beach uncovering from its sand burial, some of the finest wet shore stones I've ever seen. At 12:41pm shot this above wet surf stones with some sand close-up with a superb mix of colored stones. The full image has an excellent 3-dimensional look.

At 1:19pm worked the above strong wet sand and stones close-up. To better understand how these stone images look at 100% pixels with much more detail, the following two images are 1000 by 1000 pixel crops from that 6200 by 4000 pixel UO03023-56 image:
