My fifth year working this fantastic city garden that is a 3.7 mile drive from my residence that I began visiting at the start of the pandemic after the county shelter in place directive. This is the first year using my new Sony a6700 camera with its focus bracket function that makes this work much more productive because I can quickly capture sets of shots during breeze lulls instead of doing so slowly manually. The dark red text elements are taken directly from the garden website QR Codes page of cultivar descriptions. Link to map of the San Jose Municipal Rose Garden (SJMRG) that is at Naglee at Dana Avenue:

Worked on Monday April 22, 2024. Not a rose but rather an unknown to me flowering small tree near plot 85 shot up against blue sky. Recall this was about the only subject I captured that morning because of breezes.

Worked on Thursday April 25, 2024 at SJRG plot 104 from a near horizontal lens angle. I was surprised how well this well shaped bloom Love & Peace cultivar rose turned out after expecting it wasn't too interesting.

From lens vertical angle at SJMRG plot 71 a Mardi Gras cultivar rose.
Cultivar name: Mardi Gras. Pink blend Floribunda. Truly reminiscent of the carefree days of Mardi Gras, this new Floribunda has a large cluster of flowers with bright yellow, orange and pink hues. As a strong repeat bloomer, with a good fragrance, Mardi Gras will likely become one of your garden favorites. In form, this rose would be excellent as either a specimen or a small hedge, and is very heat resistant. Pink blend. Pink orange yellow blend upper; same reverse. Mild to strong, musk, sweet fragrance. 20 to 25 petals. Average diameter 4". Medium, double (17-25 petals), borne mostly solitary, cluster-flowered, in small clusters, classic hybrid tea, high-centered bloom form. Continuous (perpetual) bloom throughout the season. Pointed, ovoid buds. Medium, upright, well-branched. Large, semi-glossy, dark green, leathery foliage. Height of up to 4' (up to 120 cm). Width of up to 32" (up to 80 cm).

Worked on Saturday April 27, 2024, two wet diagonal Easy Spirit cultivar roses from lens downward angle at SJMRG plot 79. Gardeners run the watering sprinklers on rose plots overnight during the wee hours that early mornings leave nearby roses covered with water that I prefer to avoid working. However, the droplets tend to add aesthetics to white hued roses and in this case it was actually overnight rain.
Cultivar name: Easy Spirit. White, near white or white blend Floribunda. White, cream undertones, red edges. Mild, fruity, tea fragrance. 29 to 53 petals. Average diameter 4.5inches. Very large, very full (41+ petals), borne mostly solitary, in small clusters bloom form. Medium, upright. Large, glossy, medium green foliage. 3 to 7 leaflets. Height of 3' to 5' (90 to 150 cm).

Very unusual color Koko Loko cultivar roses that I wasn't able to successfully capture until my fourth attempt. At SJMRG plot 7. And this was nicely up against blue sky with my circular diffuser.
Cultivar name: Koko Loko. Mauve or mauve blend Floribunda. Milky chocolate suffusing to unusual lavender. Mild fragrance. 30 to 35 petals. Average diameter 4.5inches. Medium-large, full (26-40 petals), cluster-flowered, in small clusters, classic hybrid tea, high-centered bloom form. Prolific, blooms in flushes throughout the season. Long, pointed buds. Medium, bushy, rounded. Medium, semi-glossy, medium green foliage. Height of 30 to 35" (75 to 90 cm).

Using the 32 inch diameter circular diffuser is a tricky gymnastic act as I am always holding my tiny RF wireless remote RMT-P1BTA in one hand that I need to actuate a button on to release the lens aperture shutter. Since my new a6700 has a fully articulating LCD screen, I no longer also need to be looking into the EVF. While doing so I am usually visually watching plant elements, waiting for dead still breeze lulls.

Medium, bushy, thornless (or almost), upright, well-branched. Medium, glossy, light green foliage. 3 to 7 leaflets. Height of 47 inches to 5.25 feet (120 to 160 cm). Worked on Sunday April 28, 2024. A difficult tripod set up against blue sky with Moon. A large All That Jazz cultivar rose on tall bushes at SJMRG plot 155. Capturing the moon at a usable exposure level in any photo is difficult. But with focus bracketing one can take a second set at infinity distance with a lower exposure setting selected in post processing with Zerene Stacker.
Cultivar name: All That Jazz. Orange-pink Shrub. Moderate, damask fragrance. 12 petals. Average diameter 4.5". Large, semi-double (9-16 petals), cluster-flowered, in small clusters, cupped-to-flat, open bloom form. Prolific, blooms in flushes throughout the season. Medium buds. Medium, upright. Glossy, dark green, dense, holly-like, leathery foliage. Height of 3' to 5' (90 to 150 cm).

At SJRG plot 44, Strike it Rich cultivar rose of unusual colors, up against blue sky.
Cultivar name: Strike it Rich. Yellow blend Grandiflora. It's like finding a stash of doubloons. 'Strike it rich' radiates deep golden yellow blushed with a bits of ruby red. The strong fragrance suggests spice and fruit. A true Grandiflora that blooms in clusters on long stems that are suited for cutting. Great disease resistance. Golden-yellow, pink shading.
